SAITRON 185
Description:
SAITRON 185 is a basic coated Cr-Mo-Ni alloyed, low hydrogen, radiographic quality electrode for welding of low alloy high tensile structural steels. Including quenched and tempered steels such as USS Ti, heat treated fine grained steels like N-A-XTRA 70, HY-80 and ASTM A517 grade F. Used for heavy section of high tensile steels with good ductility and crack resistance along with high notch toughness at temperatures upto -500C. SAITRON 185 offers good arc characteristics and easy slag removal. Suitable for operating temperature from -500C upto +4500C.
Applications:
It is used for welding of 78 kgf/mm2 high tensile steels. Pen stock, Pressure vessel, Earthmoving equipments and other heavy steel fabrication made from high tensile steels. Welding of USS T-1, C & D Grades of SA-225/225M; B, C, D grades of SA-533/533M; B, C grades of SA-543/543M. Heat treated fine grained steels N-A-Xtra 55 upto 70, HY 80 etc.
Note on Usage:
Rebake the electrodes at 350°C for 1 hour and keep it at 150°C prior to use. Gouge out/grind, worn, damaged and fatigued metal/cracks. Clean weld area. Use electrode on AC/DC+ at the lowest amps. Keep the arc as short as possible (can be used for ‘contact welding’ also) and chip slag between passes. Peen the weld deposits while hot. Avoid weaving. Use lower current. Preheat is usually not required unless very heavy sections are involved.
